Info Amsterdam Pride takes place the first weekend of August, and has turn into a massive open air festival. Be sure not to miss
  • the street parties on the Amstel, Zeedijk and Spui on Fri & Sat (till midnight)
  • the open air stage at Rembrandtplein (main stage) and at Homomonument
  • the Canal parade on Saturday through Prinsengracht & the Amstel canal
  • the Closing Party at Rembrandtplein on Sunday Afternoon

    • During Amsterdam Pride there are also tons of parties, and it may also be the best time to visit one of Amsterdam's many gay bars.
    Warmoesstraat Area: Fetish, Cruise & Kinky
    Warmoesstraat area This is the area of Amsterdam where you find most cruis- and fetish bars, many bars with darkrooms and playrooms are located here. With the adjacent Zeedijk & Spui, it's also the gay area where most gay places can be found nowadays. Also you can find the famous leathershops here for all your kinky toys or clothes. The nowadays popular Zeedijk is close by.

    Pride Specific: if you fancy fetish & cruising, you will find the bars crowded here during pride, so a great time for cruising.

    In this area you find lots of the de-luxe hotels, as well as the cosier and more spec. and basic gay accomodation. If you are looking for a quiet neighbourhood to stay, this is not the area.

    Amstel Area: Dutch
    Amstel area
     The Amstel-area is, together with the Reguliersdwarsstraat area the trendy neighborhood. It is situated around the Rembrandtplein, a square with lots of terasses outside in summertime. Here you wil find many gay bars, from dance-bars to cosy small bars where people meet.

    Pride-specific: street parties on the Amstel are crowded, but with a pleasant business. Here you also have a great spot for the Canal Parade sailing by on Sat. afternoon, as well as being close by the Stopera for the Sunday afternoon closing party.

    The smaller regular hotels can be found in this neighbourhood. Some pleasant gayhotels are nearby. It's also the area to rent a houseboat.

    Reguliersdwarsstraat: Trendy Area
    Reguliersdwarsstraat area The Reguliersdwarsstraat-area used to be one of the most trendy gay area's in Amsterdam, together with the Amstel-area. Although many gay bars here closed down though the last few years, a.o. Soho & the new Taboo are great places to go to, and to dance Nyxx is gay on Saturdays.



    Pride-specific: this street is (over) crowded during pride, as streetparties also take place here.

    In this area you find, like anywhere in town, plenty of the de-luxe hotels. Most gay hotels are not in this area, but are close by. If you are looking for a quiet neighbourhood to stay, again, this is not the area.

    Local Area: Kerkstraat
    Kerkstraat area
     The Kerkstraat-area is one of the oldest gay-areas around town, and is situated near the Leidseplein, where the Casino and City Theatre are. The Leidseplein is the area for most straight people to go out. The Kerkstraat is a cosy, gay friendly neighbourhood, and currently is undergoing a new revival. You will also find most of the gay hotels here.

    Pride-specific: no pride parties here, but at nice walking distance from the crowds.

    One of the rural areas in town. During the weekends it's crowded here. Plenty of Luxury hotels; most gayhotels are also in this area. Close by to the museum quarter and the Vondelpark.

    You may want to consider staying at


    Museum Quarter


    A beautifull and quiet area in town, close to the 'Quartier Latin' of Amsterdam ("de Pijp"); average about 10 minutes away from the Leidseplein and Kerkstraat area.

    Vondelpark Quarter


    The most beautifull buildings in town can be found here; lovely and quiet. Please be aware that the Vondelpark is quite big; if you stay at the down-town city side, you may be a few minutes walk away from the Leidseplein and Kerkstraat area. However, if you stay at the opposite side of the park, it may take you more then half an hour walk. Renting a bike might be a good idea in that case.
